We’re just starting to blog, but we’ve been the innkeepers at the Wedgwood Inn for many years. We invite you to follow us as we blog about our adventures as keepers of a B&B in the artsy-fartsy Bucks County, PA river town of New Hope. More than a place, it’s a state of mind.
My name is Carl and together with Nadine “Dinie”, and our daughter Jessica, we have owned & operated the 18 room B&B inn since 1982. The Inn is comprised of 3 adjacent and completely renovated 19th century buildings – all on the National Register of Historic Places. The 1870 Wedgwood House, the 1833 Umpleby House & the 1890 Carriage House. We begin with….
The 1870 Wedgwood Bed & Breakfast Inn is a nationally acclaimed New Hope bed and breakfast inn. The gracious building is a Wedgwood-blue colored Victorian “Painted Lady” listed on Bucks County Registry of Historic Places. The 19th century structure has been renovated from stem -to-stern, and greatly expanded.
The building sits atop the original field stone foundation from the Colonial – era. That “Old Hip-Roof House” served as a Headquarters House for six years during the American Revolutionary War. The house and grounds, plus the fields in front, served as a campsite for three weeks for General George Washington and over 1400 soldiers in the Continental Army just prior to the famous Christmas Eve crossing of the Delaware River and the victorious Battle of Trenton.
Wedgwood Inn is spelled Wedgwood, not ‘Wedgewood’ because Wedgwood Inn is named after the Englishman Josiah Wedgwood who invented the famous Wedgwood blue bone china. The Wedgwood family name does not have a second “e” in its spelling.
The 8 guest rooms and suites are set on 2 private acres of a park-like setting with flower-lined brick walkways leading to two gazebos and a hammock, yet its just steps from New Hope’s historic and vibrant village and the walking bridge to Lambertville and nearby Princeton, New Jersey. We serve both leisure and business travelers and also host wedding ceremonies, meetings and corporate retreats.
